Top Tips For Having A Cheap New Year’s At Home This Year

The ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ (FOMO) reaches palpable proportions in the lead up to New Year’s as the lure of partying becomes ever-stronger. But skipping forward to 1am, many of us will have overspent and be waiting in a busy taxi rank or accepting a large Uber surge-charge. So, what is the solution? Plan an incredible night-in that can be as wild or cosy as you like, instead! Our guide is the ‘one-stop-shop’ to the perfect at-home NYE that will leave you feeling much fresher as you kick off 2017!

Be the ‘Host with the Most’

Seeing the New Year in at a house party is a brilliant way to save money while still being with all your favourite people. However, having all those people over puts you at risk of costly stains to furniture and carpets. Fortunately, it’s easy to be prepared with a couple of homemade home rescue solutions!

Mixing together washing liquid (1tbsp) and white vinegar (1tbsp) with warm water (2tbsp) will blitz any red wine stains you suffer, and for chewing gum, use an ice cube on the area to freeze it before cutting away the gum with a pair of scissors.

Be a whizz in the kitchen

Having a dinner party for New Year’s? After the cost of Christmas Dinner,  the thought of laying on another fancy affair might make you wince. If there’s still time before the event, why not ask all your friends to bring a course to save on stress and spending? You can always capitalise on any last festive leftovers as well – less perishable items like cheese, ham and condiments can all be wheeled out with a little creative presentation, or thrown into a recipe! New Year’s cinema club

The late night you’ll inevitably have on New Year’s Eve is as good a time as any to tackle a film marathon. Binge on Star Wars (the old ones, of course), Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter to get you to midnight. Grab your favourite throws, light some candles and make sure snacks are aplenty – think popcorn, nachos and brownies! This cosy alternative New Year’s celebration is incredibly budget friendly and great for those that have partied too hard over Christmas!

Treat yourself

However you chose to spend New Year’s, make sure you treat yourself – it is a celebration after all! A treat doesn’t have to be expensive, but a nice box of chocolates never goes down badly!

Finally, as midnight approaches, remember to take stock of the year past and take a minute to focus on goals for 2017!

Happy New Year’s from everyone at Sunny!
