9 Romantic Christmas Films That Will Give You Warm Fuzzies

Winter is the perfect time to cuddle up and keep warm with a special someone. There’s nothing nicer than getting all romantic and, frankly, a little cheesy. To help you on the way we’ve weighed up the most romantic Christmas films that will get you both feeling festive and all fuzzy inside.

1. Love Actually

Topping our chart is a veritable Christmas classic: Love Actually. If somehow, you’ve not seen this movie, then it’s definitely a must-see. Following several different characters as their lives intertwine throughout the course of the film, the general message of the story is that of finding love in different places over the festive period. It stars Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Kiera Knightley…and the list goes on! There are plenty of funny moments as well as some genuinely heartwarming scenes that could well have you in tears.

2. The Holiday

In this film, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz’s characters are just a little sick of their respective lives. Deciding to swap homes for the holiday season they get a shock when they’re introduced to the type of life they could never have envisaged. The change in scenery brings a change in faces for both of them too, and before long they’re falling in love and mending their broken hearts.

3. Just Friends

Played by Ryan Reynolds, high school nerd Chris Brander has been in love with friend Jamie for years. When he finally summons up the courage to confess his feelings for her, she rejects him, leaving a wound that will last for years. But when he returns a decade later, successful and attractive, he finds it just as hard to get out of the friend zone that he’s been firmly put in. Don’t expect much from this film but it’s good for a few giggles.

4. White Christmas

A musical romantic comedy film featuring a rendition of the titular song ‘White Christmas’, this story follows two sisters and two wartime pals. All performers, it’s a while before they begin to get along, with lots of false assumptions along the way. Finally, however, everyone gets along and it becomes a very merry Christmas indeed.

5. While You Were Sleeping

This fun case of mistaken identity focuses on Sandra Bullock’s character, a Chicago subway ticket collector. When the man she has a crush on falls into a coma at the station, she accompanies him to the hospital, only to be mistaken for his fiancee. It’s all fun and games…until she falls for his brother.

6. 12 Dates Of Christmas

In this made for TV movie, Amy Smart plays Kate, a young single woman. After her Christmas Eve blind date goes wrong, she wakes up to find her day has started all over again and that it will do so 12 times until she’s made the right choices. Try to woo her ex or make sure things go right with this new guy?

7. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Bridget Jones is an awkward British woman constantly finding herself with the wrong men. After finding herself described as “a verbally incontinent spinster who smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish and dresses like her mother” she resolves to turn her life around.

8. Last Holiday

Queen Latifah stars in this film about a woman who is diagnosed with a condition that leaves her with just three weeks left to live. Deciding to make the most of the time she has left, she takes off for a three week holiday, taking in the most lavish things in life and doing everything she’s always wanted to do. And don’t worry, the ending isn’t as sad as you may think.

9. Carol

The film Carol follows the forbidden love affair between a shop saleswoman Therese, and the glamorous soon-to-be divorcee, Carol. Though a little more serious than other films on this list, this movie is worth a watch. Taking place around the festive season, the film is full of beautiful festive imagery and the love between the two makes it impossible for them to be apart.
