5 Tips To Keep The Festive Cheer Flowing Throughout The Christmas Period

Christmas offers a rare chance to get all the family together. There’s presents, crackers and traditional TV shows all day long. But, alongside a steady stream of food and drink, how do you keep everyone entertained? To make sure your Christmas family time stays merry, follow our tips to inject even more fun into the festive period:

Take a Christmas stroll

Instead of stewing in the house crammed onto anything that could serve as a chair, why not take a group walk? Getting out in the fresh air is a great way to relieve stress. It will also work up an appetite for (or burn off) your Christmas dinner! It’s a lovely way for you and your family to have some fun that doesn’t revolve around presents.

Crack out the board games!

Board games are a faithful family favourite. It’s always a good idea to have a few on hand to play whilst waiting for dinner to be served!

If you’ve exhausted the traditional favourites like Monopoly and Scrabble, why not try a rhyming game like Obama Llama, or Game of Thrones? For a dose of added silliness, Pie Face is also a hilarious option. It’s so much fun getting to see your siblings or parents get a pie to the face!

Carols

What’s more Christmassy than carol singing? There are local carol services all over the country that you could pop along to to get into the festive spirit. Alternatively, if you’re too settled in your armchair you could have a bit of a sing-a-long at home with some favourite Christmas tunes! Pop on one of the music channels and have a good old sing-song with your family.

Lend a hand

At Christmas it’s so easy to get wrapped up in the panic of shopping, cooking and entertaining. We sometimes forget about one of the most important sentiments of the season – charity.

Crisis, a homeless charity, opens centres in cities across the UK that offer food, drink and clothing to the disadvantaged. They welcome any volunteers, especially those with dentistry, hairdressing and medical training. Here at Sunny we’ve been helping out a couple of our own local charities this Christmas – The Whitechapel Mission in London and a food bank in Bury St Edmunds. Whatever help you can give will be so gratefully received and it can be a magical way to spend your Christmas Day!

Take a micro-trip

Did you know that there are 30 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the UK, as well as many other protected sites of cultural interest? Get out of the house and go on a mini-adventure to one near you. This is particularly good if you’re spending Christmas with family in another part of the country, or have extended family visiting you!

Switch things up

However you’re spending Christmas this year, try something new to create some new family memories. Whether it’s a special breakfast, new games, or getting out and about, trying something new can be a great way to keep everyone entertained all Christmas Day and beyond!
