London

The carnival spirit hits London this weekend, with Europe’s biggest street party in Notting Hill.

If you want to relive the spark, the spirit, the costumes and the rhythm of the Rio 2016 closing ceremony then Notting Hill Carnival will provide exactly that! With two days of music, costumes and dancing you can pick between the days for the experience you want. Sunday 28 August is children’s day with more of a family vibe, and Monday 29 August is the grand finale. Take a picnic and snacks with you and the carnival is totally free! Travel restrictions and road closures will be in place so make sure you check the Transport For London website before you travel.

Birmingham

For a creative Bank Holiday treat for the kids, head to The Big Read, Story-times Trail. Kids from 3-12 years old are invited to explore Soho and collect clues along the way to create their own story book.  The trail starts at 12.30pm on Saturday 27 August at Soho House, Soho Avenue.

Glasgow

The People’s Palace & Winter Garden are hosting a free exhibition ’10 years of caricature’. Have a picnic with family and friends afterward on Glasgow Green after a stroll in the historic glasshouse.

Edinburgh

Head to the closing weekend of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With plenty of free street performances and workshops there’s something for everyone and every taste – from kids to adults.

Brighton

Has Olympic fever hit your kids? If so take the stars of the future to the ‘Kids Run Free’ event at East Hill Park in Brighton. With events held all over the country, check out your local Bank Holiday run on their website. With races to suit all ages from toddlers to teenagers it can be a really fun family day out for all!
